Today at 3:31 pm ET, we experience the perfection of the Venus-ruled New Moon in Taurus, right on the heels of the intensely overwhelming (but thankfully FINAL) Mars-Pluto opposition. This lunation doesn’t feel like a typical Taurus moon because it’s so enmeshed in the grand cross of planetary heavyweights in fixed signs. What we can do now, to enjoy this properly, is to EXHALE.
All together, right now. Close your eyes, scan your body, and notice what you’re still holding onto, especially anything you’re gripping from the last six months of stress, reaching back to the election, the first time that Mars and Pluto stood in a hard opposition to one another in this past year. Whatever you’re clenching, wherever that rigidity is: breathe into it and then exhale slowly and intentionally. That feels good, does it not? Do it again if you need to.
What we want from Taurus energy is the pleasure, the rolling around in the meadow, letting the soil get under our fingernails, the heady smell of flowers in our nostrils, the sound of birds singing, mad with passion, the heat of the mid-spring sun on our heads, the taste of ripened berries swirled with honey, a lover’s flesh nearby. The sensorial saturation is the whole point. Visual feasts and sensory overwhelm. Everything everywhere all at once, but with taste, touch, sight, smell and deep listening.
But the true glory of Taurus energy is in the waiting. Taurus teaches us that foreplay can and should last all day long. Sitting with something that you want, beginning to feel that pleasure rippling out, but instead of letting it come to completion, lingering in the outer bands of it, getting right up to that moment of climactic release, and then taking a few steps back so that you can enjoy it again and again.
Venus returns to Aries on the 30th, and we will be hungry for urgency and demanding, instantaneous pleasures. Because May is Masturbation Month, we’re about to embark upon opportunity after opportunity to take things all the way. Just for today, why not just wait for it?
